Syd Waddle: 1931-2012

Comedy legend, Syd Waddle, has died aged 81.
He was perhaps best-known for playing the lovable rogue in the series of classic British comedies 'Whoops A-Daisy, Ducks'.
His acting career began when he was 17 and acted as Lassie's stunt double in 'Lassie Goes To Town.'
After National Service, Sid returned to rep, starring in the hilarious farce 'Stop It, I'm A Vicar!' which ran for 27 years.
Not confined to comedy roles he acted opposite Dirk Bogarde in the ground-breaking film 'I Am Arresting You For Bumming!' (1964).
A colourful and flamboyant character, some say his career was somewhat hampered by him being an old drunk and complete lech.
In the 80s he appeared in the popular soap opera Eastenders as 'Man at bar'.
More latterly Sid appeared mainly in panto, his perfomance as Widow Twankey in Aladdin at the Blackpool Variety Theatre was compared by one critic to "Sir Larry Olivier at his very best".
He never married.
