Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation: Accounts

Everybody loves Ben Cohen.
He's a gay icon!
He's a straight ally!
He won Attitude's Ally Award!
Even if he puts out a calendar it's GAY NEWS!
He went SHIRTLESS on Strictly Come Dancing at the weekend!
He runs the Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation!

The Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation wants to encourage people to stand up against bullying.

Ben writes on their website...

I encourage others to stand up with me and make a difference. Simply shop or donate, and your efforts will help fund extremely important work.

Its mission?

To raise awareness of the long-term, damaging effects of bullying and to raise funds to support those doing real-world work to stop it.

Great!

Obvious question - though strangely one never asked in the endless laudatory coverage in the gay media - so where does the money actually go?

According to this official 990 report, the only one filed since it was founded, in one year the US arm of Ben Cohen's StandUp Foundation made $135,000 and only gave out $14,700.

Here are their 2012 accounts filed with the UK Charities Commission.

Income: £106,000.

Grants awarded : £6,800!

Please bear this in mind if you're thinking of giving them any more money.

The foundation have been asked to comment.
There is no evidence of any wrongdoing.
There could be a quite innocent explanation...

  1. It does smell like journalism. Odd and depressing how rare it is to actually see some proper journalism. It exposes the gay media as basically just a business concern in itself and only really worried about the its own profit margins - hence the reason it mostly just publishes puff pieces and inane crap and steers well clear of anything remotely resembling proper, honest, effective journalism...
